Lilla Napoli has become so well-known that the pizzeria is now a destination in itself. With the aim of achieving the perfect Neapolitan pizza, this team has developed a unique process for the dough, topped with carefully selected ingredients. The restaurant is open year-round, but of course, it's always extra lovely to sit on the outdoor terrace during the summer months with a freshly baked pizza and a glass of wine. If you find yourself near Falkenberg, a stop here is almost a must – just make sure to book your pizza dough in advance, as it tends to sell out.

If you're in the mood for a true summer idyll, you can set your sights on Kosterhavets Ekobod, one of Sweden's westernmost restaurants. Step into the garden of the owners' grandparents, where food meets culture against a backdrop of salty sea air. The menu revolves around the treasures of the West Coast – that is, fresh seafood – as well as pizza, which is best enjoyed with a glass of natural wine or a cocktail made from local ingredients. With a bit of luck, you might catch a live performance or another event.

Musselbaren can be found in two locations on the West Coast: in Ljungskile and Smögen. As the name suggests, authentic Bohuslän delicacies in the form of freshly caught mussels that take centre stage, served with sustainable seasonal ingredients. The menu features both classic dishes such as moules frites and more creative variations – how about mussel tacos or a mussel burger? Carefully selected drinks are served alongside to further enhance the tasting experience. If you visit the branch in Ljungskile, you can also join a mussel expedition and harvest your own dinner.

Right on the Orust beachfront in Bohuslän's inner archipelago lies Slussens Pensionat, which describes itself as "a gastronomic metropolis." This year-round weekend and conference hotel becomes a gathering point for music, food, and wonderful relaxation with a view over the water during the summer. With Chef of the Year winner David Lundqvist at the helm, the restaurant prepares luxurious dishes using the season's best ingredients, paired with organic wines selected by sommelier Julian Sohlberg. Choose between a fine dining experience with a tasting menu at the pop-up restaurant Hallins Hus, and a three-course dinner that includes a concert ticket. 

Food and drink take centre stage at Stora Hotellet i Fjällbacka. The hotel boasts no less than three different restaurants – all under the helm of Michelin-starred chef Thomas Sjögren – as well as a bakery and a wine cellar. At Asado, the focus is on classic archipelago cuisine with a modern twist, while Asado invites you on a vibrant flavour journey to South America. If you're in the mood for fine pizza or, for that matter, some charcuterie and cheese, you can aim for Grano, which serves Italian delicacies with a West Coast style. The hotel is open from spring to autumn, and you don't need to stay overnight to visit the restaurants.

At the far end of Tjörn lies Klädesholmen, a quiet little island where you can enjoy the tranquility and natural surroundings – as well as good food. The island is home to Salt & Sill, which serves as both a coastal tavern and a floating hotel. The restaurant offers flavours from Bohuslän, with an emphasis on fish, seafood and other local delicacies. From time to time, they organise extra festive seafood weekends, and overnight guests can book the seafood package. During the summer months, they expand their food offering with a pizzeria, an ice cream kiosk, and a bar serving cocktails and other delicious drinks.

You can't get much closer to the waters of the West Coast than this beach tavern without getting your feet wet. The menu is equally salt-sprayed, featuring fresh fish and seafood served in classic style. On the generous outdoor terrace, you can enjoy moules, a prawn sandwich, or why not a couple of oysters and bubbly with a magnificent view of the sunset. If anyone in your group isn't a fish lover, there are a couple of meat and vegetarian options. During the summer season, you can visit Norra Hamnen 5 for lunch and dinner, while in winter, it's all about the Christmas buffet and special events.

On the south-western coast of Orust, just above Marstrand, there's a lovely fish and seafood restaurant with its own fishmongers. The place is called Bryggvingen and focuses entirely on offering the freshest produce from the sea in an authentic, welcoming environment. You won't have to wonder at all about where the fish on your plate comes from – the owner Erik goes out with his fishing boat to catch it himself. The menu features classic dishes such as fish stew, toast Skagen, and cod loin with accompaniments. Be sure to visit the fish shop where you'll also find homemade bread, dairy products, vegetables, and ready-made takeaway dishes.

Villa Sjötorp's lush veranda is just made for cosy dinners on warm summer evenings. The beautiful Victorian villa in Lyckorna, Ljungskile, about 45 minutes from Gothenburg, is well worth a visit – especially if you're seeking tranquillity and a peaceful idyll. In the kitchen, ingredients take centre stage, and most of what is served is made from local and organic produce sourced from nearby forests, fields and waterways. The restaurant is primarily open in the summer and on select occasions during the spring, but larger groups can also book during the winter.

Tant Anton is housed in a charming red building on Kungshamn's quayside. Flavours from around the world coexist on the same menu here, featuring creative sharing dishes with fish, meat, and vegetarian options, and cocktails are shaken in a variety of colours and styles at the bar. Settle down on the outdoor terrace, order a little bit of everything to share, and just let the summer vibes take over. The view over the sea – especially at sunset – creates the perfect backdrop. If you're passing through Gothenburg, you can also visit their sister restaurant Aunt Anton in the City.

A short drive inland from the southern West Coast, about half an hour from Varberg, lies one of Sweden's best restaurants – at least according to the Michelin Guide. Restaurant ÄNG is located on a meadow next to Ästad Vingård, where they invite you on a flavour journey through Halland and beyond. Both dinner and breakfast are served in tasting menu format in a beautiful setting that enhances the entire experience. In addition to its Michelin star, ÄNG has also been awarded the guide's green star for its work with sustainability and organic ingredients, as well as two stars and three rings from the sustainable food guide 360° Eat Guide. A meal here costs more than a typical restaurant visit, but in return you get a memory for life.

Restaurant Fyr is in the summer paradise of Tylösand, a short drive from central Halmstad. Under the leadership of Jacob Holmström and Emelie Leijon, who previously ran a Michelin-starred restaurant in Stockholm, they serve a well-composed menu primarily based on fish and seafood, but also featuring fine ingredients from the forest and land. You can visit Fyr for lunch, dinner, and brunch in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is open year-round.

If you find yourself on the southern West Coast, you can visit Spiseriet in Varberg, whose guiding principles are “organic, sustainable and locally produced”. Opening hours vary throughout the year, but during the peak season you can enjoy both lunch and dinner here, and it is not unusual for them to host a few extra festive events such as wine tastings, guest chefs, and winemaker dinners. Flavour-wise, they follow the Scandinavian line, along with influences from other parts of Europe. The restaurant also has a cheese shop where you can browse both Swedish and Danish cheeses.

With an address right on the shoreline, it's no wonder that fish and seafood are the focus at Brygghuset in Fiskebäckskil. The restaurant is located in Slipens Hotell and has one foot in classic French cuisine and the other in Bohuslän's traditional fare. The menu changes with the seasons, but regardless of the time of year, you can expect delicious dishes framed by the salty scent of the sea. If you're interested in drinks, you should visit the restaurant's whisky bar, or why not book a wine tasting?

Publik Mat och Bar offers an exciting mix of flavours from the West Coast, Japan, and South America. The menu consists of both small and large dishes that can easily feature in a three-course dinner, or as a sharing meal where everyone shares in all the goodness. The ambition is to be a coastal tavern that stands out a little from the crowd, where guests can relax and socialise in an unpretentious atmosphere. To enhance the experience even further, they focus on offering a large and slightly unusual selection of beer, wine, spirits, and cocktails.

At Marstrands Havshotell, you can say yes to each other with the North Sea as your closest neighbour. The hotel has two beautiful function rooms, Sillsalteriet and Vinden, each offering rustic charm and spectacular views of the water. Arrive by boat at the hotel's own dock and then enjoy dinner and festivities in a magical atmosphere before it's time to retire to one of the suites. Marstrands Havshotell offers various wedding packages, including a three-course dinner, wine package, and bridal toast, and the staff will help create the perfect combination of salty and sweet. 

Are you dreaming of a wedding in beautiful Smögen? Then this could be something for you. At Smögens Hafvsbad, which is beautifully framed by sea and cliffs, you'll receive all the help you might need to make your special day a memory for life. A short boat ride will take you to the island of Hållö where you can tie the knot in the chapel or by the lighthouse. Afterwards, a dinner and celebration await in the hotel's event spaces, which can be adapted for both small and large gatherings. If you want a little extra luxury, you can check into the suite where you have access to your own jacuzzi and a balcony with a view of the sea.

It would be hard to find a more romantic place for a wedding than Norrviken Gardens. Let love bloom in the enchanting gardens near Båstad, as Norrviken's wedding coordinators assist you in planning and executing your dream wedding. Choose to have your ceremony outdoors on the Eastern terrace with sea views or in the Victoria House, a large glass greenhouse surrounded by greenery. Dinner is served at the Orangeriet restaurant, where seasonal ingredients form the basis for the festive menu. 

For a wedding on the West Coast with truly historical vibes, Carlsten's Fortress, which dates back to the mid-17th century, is an excellent choice. The old building is not only Marstrand's foremost attraction but also a place where many couples choose to say yes to each other. The fortress's grand halls and arches create a unique setting for both the celebration and the ceremony itself, which can be held in the fortress church or in a civil manner in one of the ramparts. The wedding package includes a dinner, serving staff, table setting, and a welcome drink, and those who wish can also have cannon and musket salutes to truly mark the big day.

At Hampholmen's Magasin, your wedding is both grand and intimate. You get not only the venue but the whole island to yourselves. The charming barn accommodates around 35 people indoors and a few more on the jetty, making it perfect for smaller scale weddings. Enjoy a dinner made with the freshest catch from the sea, followed by dancing and perhaps even a dip in the hot tub or sauna. The staff is more than happy to assist with everything from photographers to food, drinks, and archipelago tours, but if you prefer to arrange everything yourself, that's fine too. There's no sleeping accommodation on the island, but they have accommodation just a short boat ride away with 16 beds.

If you're looking for a Pinterest-style rural wedding venue, Rönnås Barn is a great recommendation. The idyllic farm, with its red buildings, is a stone's throw from the coast between Varberg and Falkenberg and is a popular place for couples to celebrate their love. Mingle and toast each other with bubbles in the leafy courtyard, while the party barn, which is often decorated with bunting and fairy lights, serves well as a dining room and dance floor. If you want to retreat for a moment and just soak in the calm, there's also a greenhouse to settle into. Staff can help with dinner, table settings, and coffee, while you arrange the drinks yourselves. There are also a couple of cottages available for an overnight stay.

If you followed the TV series "Saltön", you'll recognise the surroundings of Grundsund – the majority of the scenes were filmed here. This charming fishing village is located on Skaftö in Bohuslän, an island between Orust and Lysekil. The history of the fishing community dates back to the 17th century, and along the canal, you can find picturesque boathouses and piers from various eras. During the summer season, you can buy fish and seafood directly from the boats. 

On the coast of the Skagerrak, just north of Smögen, the fishing community of Hunnebostrand offers a delightful mix of beautiful nature, exciting culture, and culinary gems. As well as swimming in the salty sea and enjoying the catch of the day, you can experience centuries-old sights, learn more about the fishing village's history, and shop in the local stores. But perhaps the best activity is wandering around the dramatic landscape and simply soaking in the atmosphere.

Around one kilometre from the northern entrance of Kungshamn lies Väjern, a small fishing village that has grown significantly in recent years thanks to new development. The village boasts authentic West Coast charm, with salty waters and charming fishing huts. If you're out walking, you can easily access the Sote Trail via Väjern, and if you arrive by boat, there's a lovely guest harbour to dock at. The fishing village has been referred to by the locals as “the end of the world”, likely because there was once only one road leading here. 

Glommen is located a bit further down the west coast, halfway between Varberg and Falkenberg. Besides a charming fishing village and a small marina, there's a long beach where you can spend summer days without having to crowd. There's plenty going on here during the summer, such as the Glommen Crayfish Festival with everything from dancing on the pier to live music, market stalls, a funfair, the crayfish run, and - of course - plenty of fresh crayfish.

If you want to visit a fishing village on the northern West Coast, Kattvik, near Båstad, is a great option. Fishing has been a tradition here for several hundred years, although the area is now primarily a popular destination for summer holidaymakers. Kattvik offers opportunities for crab fishing, beautiful walking trails, and treats such as ice cream and waffles.

In Båstad, you'll find Pepe's Bodega, one of the most iconic summer clubs on the West Coast. What started in the early 90s as a small hole in the wall has now expanded into a larger restaurant with a bar, outdoor seating, and the nightclub LOFT, which also houses the legendary crystal room. At Pepe's, you can kick off the evening with some street food and drinks on the terrace, before hitting the dance floor. The music is provided by various DJs.

Havsbadet hosts afterwork events with fun activities like quizzes and karaoke for most of the year, but it's during the summer that the nightclub really comes to life. The programme is filled with everything from themed evenings to live performances by well-known artists and DJs, making Lysekil a true hotspot for the partygoers of the West Coast. As the name suggests, Havsbadet is located right by the water, with the harbour and the sea as a backdrop.

The Cod isn't just one of Strömstad's, but the whole West Coast's, most popular venues. Located on the quay, the nightclub offers authentic summer vibes, especially on warm evenings when the sun sets on the horizon. Party on selected evenings all year round, although it's during the summer months that events such as live performances and DJ sessions are most frequent. Keep an eye on their social media for the current programme.

In autumn, starting on 20th September, lobster fishing begins on the West Coast. Those craving a salty adventure can book a lobster safari with an experienced fisherman out on the water. Several places organise fishing trips in the archipelago where you can join in the search for the sea's black gold. Most packages include dinner and overnight accommodation, but some also offer sauna, swimming, and other activities.

The West Coast is perfect for those who want to surf. A place well-known for its surf spots is Varberg. Surfakademin hosts its surfing and mindfulness weekends here every spring and autumn, where you can take part in surfing, hiking, bathing and sauna, cosy dinners and much more. All levels are welcome.

Along the waterfront in Lysekil, this delightful walking path has been created by locals and is fully accessible. Stroll along beautiful granite cliffs with a view of the sea. The entire walk is 1100 metres long and there are also bathing spots along the way where you can cool off with a dip.

If you want to experience the stunning natural beauty typical of the Bohuslän coast, then you can walk the 'Ramsvik Circuit'. A popular hiking trail that's 15 kilometres long and stretches around the famous Ramsvik Nature Reserve. It's easy to navigate and you'll pass granite cliffs and traces of the Ice Age along the way.

Between Helsingborg and Gothenburg runs the Kattegattleden, Sweden's first national cycle route, which is a full 390 kilometres long. Perfect for those who want to explore the West Coast by bike, passing charming coastal towns and beautiful countryside. Cycle the entire route or choose one of its eight stages along the coast.

Kayaking is a perfect way to explore the West Coast. The archipelago also has some of the world's best paddling waters. Venture out among rocks and reefs and glide through nature. At Skärgårdsidyllen in Grebbestad you can hire sea kayaks and equipment, take courses, and join guided tours.

Join us for a day trip aboard the historic sailing vessel T/S Kvartsita in Fiskebäckskil on Skaftö. During the summer months, they offer sailing trips in the archipelago where anyone can participate. The day trips run from morning to afternoon and provide a taste of life at sea and the beautiful island world of Bohuslän.

Experience art, history and nature in north-west Tjörn. Pilane is a large sculpture park where you can wander around an ancient burial ground and view exhibitions hosted by artists every summer. A magnificent experience with spectacular views over the sea.

Marmorbassängen ('The Marble Pool') is one of the most talked-about bathing spots on the West Coast, and perhaps even in Sweden, and it's easy to see why. Iit feels as if you're in another country here, with turquoise waters surrounded by soft stone slabs to lounge on in the sun. The Marble Pool can be reached from Smögen and Kungshamn, either by your own boat or by ferry.

Tylösand's four-kilometre-long sandy beach is renowned both in Sweden and internationally. It's been awarded the title of Sweden's most beautiful beach several times, featuring rolling sand dunes and many sunny days. Nearby, there are several restaurants and kiosks selling food and drink. You can also swim here safely, thanks to the lifeguards.

Apelviken is the jewel in Varberg's crown, a long sandy beach with both cliffs and a bathing jetty. In addition to sun and swimming, there are shops, restaurants, kiosks, and mini-golf nearby, as well as businesses that rent out equipment for windsurfing, SUP, and wave surfing. The latter is something you'll see a lot of here, as Apelviken has been called a surfer's paradise, with wonderful waves to venture out among. A stone's throw away is the slightly smaller beach, Lilla Apelviken.

This charming peninsula in Gothenburg's archipelago can be reached by tram line 11 from the city centre, a journey that takes about 35 minutes. The bathing spot is called Aspholmen and it's a rocky beach – choose to jump in or walk in from the bathing ladder. A summer paradise that truly stands out.

Falkenberg's Långasand is a popular destination with families, with its shallow and warm waters and plenty of space for children to run around. You can also go shell hunting here as the beach is full of shells and mussel shells. 

Skrea Strand's two-kilometre long sandy beach with sand dunes, a long bathing pier, and bathhouses is very popular during the summer. Buy an ice cream and people-watch, take a dip, or enjoy a post-beach drink – there's something for all ages and interests here.

Brännö is a picturesque island and a well-known excursion destination in the Gothenburg archipelago, not least because of the dancing on Brännö pier. The island can be reached by taking a trip to Saltholmen and from there by own boat or ferry to Brännö, where there are several lovely bathing spots. Ramsdal is one of them, featuring cliffs, a small sandy beach, diving tower, and ladders.

On Fästningspiren ('the Fortress Pier') in Varberg you'll find a swimming area aptly named Fästningsbadet. The large sun deck accommodates many sun-seekers and bathers, and there's also a bathing jetty and diving tower. The water is deep and it's often very crowded, so this is a bathing spot suitable for older children, teenagers, and adults.

The island of Bohus-Malmön has several beautiful beaches, one of which is Pärlane. It's often referred to as Pärlan ('the Pearl'), thanks to its white fine-grained sand and crystal-clear water. The beach is surrounded by cliffs, and the whole scene is very archipelago romantic. Other beaches on Bohus-Malmön include Kyrkogårdsviken, Kalvens bathing area, and Kattesand.

In Fiskebäckskil lies Bökevik, a family-friendly swimming spot with coarse sandy beach, cliffs, and a view towards Lysekil. The water is shallow, making it popular among families with children, but there are several swimming piers, some of which have slightly deeper water. Nearby, there's also a large grassy area and swings.

At cosy Solhaga Stenugnsbageri, sourdough bread and sweet pastries are baked using locally sourced flour from the Halland mills Berte Qvarn and Limabacka Kvarn. Craftsmanship is key here: the bread is made with sourdough and other types of pre-ferments, without additives and semi-finished products. The selection varies daily and can be enjoyed inside the café or in the leafy gardens

Feldts På Skolberget is well-known baker, pastry-chef, and all-rounder My Feldts' restaurant and café. It is housed in the old Maredsskolan in Oskarström, a beautiful brick school building with a large outdoor seating area that's open in the summer. Both lunch and snacks are served, and sometimes wine. Most of the ingredients are organic, locally sourced, and in season, and everything is made from scratch.

In the 18th century castle gardens of Gunnebo Castle is Gunnebo Coffee House and Inn. It is an organic restaurant and café with its own craft bakery, primarily using ingredients that are grown and produced around the Västra Götaland region, complemented by herbs, spices, and vegetables from its own kitchen garden.

Borgskogs is part of the Eskekärr estate in Tostared and is run by the award-winning baker and pastry chef Fredrik Borgskog, who has competed with the Swedish culinary team and the Swedish pastry team, among others. Along with his wife, he offers both sweet and savoury treats, where gluten plays a major role.

The restaurant and café Skäret is beautifully located in Smögen, in the same premises where it's claimed the prawn sandwich first saw the light of day in 1931. The prawn sandwich is still on the menu, as well as cakes and summery dishes to enjoy with a view of the sea.

By the sea in Bleket on southern Tjörn lies Lotta's Bakery & Design, where everything is baked with a view of the aforementioned sea. Their bread is made solely from sourdough and older heritage grain varieties. It's then left to rise in cold temperatures for at least a day before being baked to develop its delightful character. As well as buying and enjoying good bread here, you can have coffee, indoors or outdoors right by the sea.

Right in the middle of Strömstad, this delightful summer restaurant has a large outdoor seating area where you can enjoy sweet and savoury dishes. They serve larger bistro-style meals such as burgers, salads, meat, and seafood, as well as coffee and pastries.

For a spectacular and extraordinary stay, check in at Pater Noster out at the edge of the open sea. This award-winning boutique hotel is located in an old lighthouse keeper's house on a small private island and features nine well-designed rooms with a view. You can't get much closer to nature than this.

In a yellow 19th-century villa in Lysekil lies Villa Solviken, a friendly little hotel with renovated rooms and a restaurant focused on Swedish flavours. Villa Solviken also arranges lobster fishing, hikes, and other local activities for you to participate in. The owners are originally from Lysekil and run several restaurants in Lysekil and Gothenburg.

In a nature reserve by the Gullmarsfjord in Bohuslän lies this spa hotel where you can indulge in exclusive relaxation. The hotel is designed by architect Gert Wingårdh and features a large spa area with outdoor and indoor pools. There are 156 hotel rooms decorated in modern Scandinavian style.

Right by the sea in Lysekil lies the Strandflickornas Havshotell, a hotel and bed & breakfast where guests stay and dine in beautiful turn of the century wooden villas. The inspiration for Strandflickornas Havshotell comes from Lysekil's history as a seaside resort, and they've managed to preserve the old atmosphere in the rooms.

Resort, beach club, spa hotel… Falkenberg Strandbad has a bit of everything. The hotel's “Retreat Club” is a lush pool oasis with a sauna, relaxation beds, orangery, food, drinks, and much more. If you're looking for a more glamorous holiday vibe, this is the right place for you.

At Slipens Hotel in Fiskebäckskil, you'll stay in uniquely decorated rooms inspired by the area's history and past generations. It's also home to the cosy archipelago restaurant Brygghuset that serves fish and seafood by the sea.

Lotshotellet is a charming little seaside hotel on idyllic Käringön, which also has its own crêperie. Stay from the end of April until Christmas and make the most of the surroundings. As a guest, you have access to the hotel's bathing jetty and sauna, and you can also partake in lobster fishing and other experiences.

Marstrand's Kurhotell combines old-fashioned charm with modern comfort. Relax, take long walks, or simply gaze out over the Bohuslän landscape. The hotel has roots dating back to the 19th century and is a true oasis for anyone in need of a little recuperation.

Varbergs Kusthotell, formerly known as Varbergs Kurort, is in the outskirts of Varberg and is a historic spa hotel by the sea. Try a heated saltwater pool, enjoy the sauna, and relax in the relaxation area. The hotel also has a restaurant that serves dishes made with seasonal ingredients and a bar with an open fireplace.

Further inland, in the Åkulla Bokskogar nature reserve, you can check in at the organic vineyard Ästad Vingård. You can find everything from luxurious rooms with private saunas to cosy timber cabins by the stream here. The vineyard also offers a spa and several restaurants, including the Michelin-starred ÄNG.

Slottsskogens Boot Sale is a true classic in the world of car boot sales. Find treasures among thousands of items from around 180 vendors next to the lush Slottsskogen park. Most vendors accept Swish, but not all, so if you don't want to miss out on the gems, it might be wise to bring some cash with you. Feeling hungry? Food trucks nearby sell, among other things, hot dogs, burgers, chips, churros, ice cream, soft drinks, coffee, and snacks. The boot sale is held on selected dates from March to September.

Gubbröran is a combined flea market and café. Enjoy a coffee in the garden if you come here to check out the selection, which consists of several rooms filled with antiques. You'll find the flea market in a small, red 19th-century cottage between Jörlanda and Stora Höga.

Right next to a meadow with grazing cows in Orust lies Orust Re-use, which is Bohuslän's re-use shop. The selection includes furniture, furnishings, textiles, bicycles, doors, windows, machinery, and building materials, but keep your eyes peeled, as the best items disappear quickly.

At Roland's Antikinvest, you can find a plethora of exciting items. The shop specialises in collectibles and oddities, which attracts many interior designers and collectors. They have also rented out items and assisted with the set design for Camilla Läckberg's films. The shop is open every day except for Christmas Eve.

If you find yourself on Tjörn, or fancy a trip to the charming island – then check out Rörekullen Loppis i Ladan. As the name suggests, this is a barn that has been converted into a flea market, and here you can find everything from paintings and furniture to books and film posters.

Patriks Prylar is not a traditional flea market; here you'll find both new and old items, as well as some recycling, but the place still deserves its spot on the list. The shop is renowned far and wide for its extensive range of interiors details that fill the old stable in Röinge, beyond Snöstorp. Don't miss the chance to have a coffee at the neighbour's.

In a beautiful stone storehouse in Morup, just a short distance from Falkenberg, lies Munkagårds Magasin.
