Getting around in Malmö - how to hire an electric scooter

During the past year Malmö has undergone a major transformation when it comes to the best and quickest ways of getting around the city. The introduction of electric scooters onto the market has revolutionised the way both tourists and locals travel from A to B. These days you'll see people of all ages cruising around the streets on scooters, from street-styled teenagers to middle-aged, besuited businesspeople on their way to their next meeting. Naturally we've also included an alternative for anyone who prefers a good old-fashioned bicycle when it comes to travelling around Malmö.

Getting around Malmö

Electric scooters, bikes and boats

Voi

Electric scooters

Voi was among the first companies to launch electric scooters in Malmö so they've become somewhat synonymous with the concept in the city. You'll recognise a Voi scooter by their distinctive red colour.

  • Price: Start-up cost 10 SEK, then 3 SEK per minute

Malmö by Bike

Cycle

If you want to get some exercise and prefer getting around on a good old-fashioned bike, Malmö by Bike is for you. With masses of cycle stations all over the city you're never far from a bike to rent. The service is good value and easy to use. Thanks to the numerous stations, you can easily leave the bike close to where you are when you're finished for the day. If you opt for the great-value annual fee you can choose to have a bike helmet sent to you free of charge. Safety first.

  • Price: 80 SEK/24 hours, 165 SEK/3 days, 250 SEK/year + bike helmet

Bolt

E-Scooter, taxi

Bolt's green e-scooters are easy to spot from afar. They have been in Malmö since 2021 and in addition to numerous e-scooters around the city, they also offer cheap taxi rides.

  • Price: Start fee 10 SEK, then 3 SEK/minute

BookaBoat

Bonus tip: electric boat

Probably not the quickest and definitely not the cheapest way to get around in Malmö (electric scooters win by a mile), as the boats travel slowly and are limited to Malmö's canals. However, BookaBoat is an enjoyable activity that allows you to see the city from a new perspective. The boat is electrically powered and easy to drive with no previous experience. There is a table and benches to sit at so don't forget to bring a picnic to enjoy with your group during the trip. Then hop on a electric scooter and see the rest of the city.

  • Price: 1h: 590 SEK | 2h: 990 SEK | 3h: 1390 SEK
