Rydals museum

Spinning mill with exciting exhibitions 

In the old mill community of Rydal outside Gothenburg, you can discover Sweden's best-preserved spinning mill, which was founded in 1853 and is now Rydal Museum. The beautiful factory building hosts fascinating exhibitions for all ages.

Rydal Museum is an experience for all the senses. The spinning machines have been standing here since the 1940s and you can experience the environment where the textile workers worked just as it was. The museum shows, among other things, the main exhibition Textile Mark - the story of Rydal and the textile village of Mark, an exhibition that uses multimedia technology to tell the story of the textile industry, the spinning mill, the community that grew up around the factory and the people who lived and worked there. The museum's mascot NystANN makes the exhibition interactive and fun even for younger visitors.

As well as experiencing the museum itself, you can also explore the historic promenade, which is 750 metres long. Along the promenade there are signs with information that tell the story of the people and buildings in Rydal. At the museum you can also borrow a key that goes to two of the buildings on the road. The promenade is partially handicapped accessible. You can also start the walk at the current microbrewery and continue along the old warehouse to the museum. On the ground floor of the old spinning factory there is a creative workshop with activities for children, young people and adults.

You can also visit Rydals Herrgård next to the museum, which was originally the factory manager's residence  and where you can now have lunch.
