Forget Dry January – in what's fast becoming an annual tradition, The Black Friar is going all in on Pie January.

From 5 January to the end of February, The Black Friar, a Grade II-listed pub in Salford, is running its annual Pie Festival deal, offering its renowned homemade pies at only £10 a pop on weekdays. The authentic northern pies are made with crisp pastry and various fillings, including the four menu fixtures – confit garlic, chicken + leek, mushroom keema, shortcrust + onion bhaji, truffle dauphinoise, and classic meat + potato – as well as rotating daily specials with a more offbeat vibe, for example lasagne pie or pigeon pie. Supersized sharing pies for four people, priced at £65, are also available with advance notice, with fillings including choices like ox cheek and bone marrow. It's all pie for afters as well, with the pub serving a selection of dessert pies, for example treacle pie and lemon meringue.

The Festival of Pie runs until 27 February, making The Black Friar a top destination for hearty, warming meals and chasing the winter grey away. Head over to their website to find out more and book your spot.
