Manchester City Council has revealed a major plan to revitalise Piccadilly Gardens, aiming to make it a vibrant, world-class public space. This marks the first stage of a broader, long-term transformation for the busy city centre area.

With the initial phase focusing on improving safety, aesthetics, and functionality, there are lots of improvements coming to the area, but Mancunians will likely be most likely to hear greenery will return to the Gardens, with new trees, flowerbeds, and seasonal plantings to bring colour year-round. Meanwhile, the unpopular concrete wall and raised planters will be removed to open up the space for families and events. A new playground will also replace the currently outdated equipment. In addition, the former fountain area will become a flexible events space for community gatherings and performances.

Residents will be invited to share input, including voting for their preferred flowers via the Manchester Flower Festival. Work is expected to begin soon after the Christmas Markets conclude, setting the stage for a more welcoming and enjoyable Piccadilly Gardens. Head here for more info.
