Held every September for ten days, the largest history and culture festival in the UK brings together thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Communities across the country come together to celebrate heritage, share stories, and explore traditions, offering a unique chance to access hidden places and try new experiences.

In Manchester, the Heritage Open Days programme includes a wide assortment of events, ranging from guided tours of secret areas, peeks behind the doors of historic buildings it's otherwise hard to get access to, nature walks, creative workshops, artist talks, and much more. Best of all, it's all free!

Heritage Open Days 2024 take place from 6 to 15 September. Visit their website to discover the full programme and plan your outings.

Since 2008, our editors have been writing insightful guides covering restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels, and hairdressers, among other things. Our guides consist of carefully selected tips based on our local knowledge and are regularly updated with the help of our focus group, where we collectively discuss selections and content.
