One for the design lovers
The Tower of Light is a 40-meter structure in Manchester City Centre, supporting flues for a low-carbon energy centre. The tower not only symbolises the council's commitment to clean energy, but also doubles as a small power station. A design competition was held to create a landmark at a key city gateway to avoid a typical, unsightly flue tower. Tonkin Liu, a leading London architecture practice, won with their Shell Lace Structure, inspired by natural geometries for strength. It's the largest of its kind and worth visiting for its striking design.
