Michelin-starred restaurants – About the guide

Michelin-starred restaurants - about the guide

About the Michelin Guide – The first guide was published in 1900 on the initiative of the tire manufacturer Michelin. It was distributed free of charge to everyone who bought a car. In the Michelin Guide, the food (and only the food) is rated with stars.
– Three stars in the Michelin Guide mean that a restaurant is “worth a trip in itself”.
– Two stars mean that the restaurant is “worth a detour”.
– One star means that it is an “exceptionally good restaurant in its category”.

The Bib Gourmand is the Michelin Guide's award for restaurants that serve really good food at a reasonable price; a kind of honorary mention.

Since 2020, the Michelin Guide has also awarded green stars to restaurants that work with sustainability.
