The world's most famous performance artist will premiere her new piece, “Balkan Erotic Epic,” in Manchester this October.
“Balkan Erotic Epic” is a daring new immersive show by renowned performance artist Marina Abramović, exploring the spiritual and sensual roots of Balkan folklore. Known for her ground-breaking work across major global stages and museums, Abramović now brings one of her most ambitious creations to Manchester's Aviva Studios. Set over four hours, the piece blends myth and performance art in a ritualistic journey through 13 intense, symbolic scenes.
With a cast of over 70 performers, including dancers, musicians, and singers, the show offers a deeply physical and emotional experience. Staged across the vast venue, the performance invites audiences to roam freely and engage with unfolding moments of song, movement, and ritual. These pop-up encounters create an ever-shifting, participatory environment. At once intimate and epic, the show captures the untamed energy of Abramović's heritage and invites you to witness performance art at its most visceral.
