Manchester might not be globally renowned for its Michelin-starred cuisine, as there's only a pair of stars to be found in the entire city. However, regardless of how many restaurants with a Michelin star there are in a city in total, the fact remains that every Michelin-starred restaurant exemplifies the best of fine dining and is well worth a visit on its own merits. Skof

One Michelin star

Opened in 2024, Skof quickly became a standout in Manchester's dining scene, earning a Michelin star within a year and gaining widespread acclaim for its seasonal tasting menus built around locally sourced ingredients. Led by chef Tom Barnes, the restaurant embraces a relaxed, unpretentious approach to fine dining, focusing on joy and surprise rather than rigid formality. With expertly crafted modern British dishes and thoughtfully curated drink pairings, Skof has firmly established itself as a must-visit destination for food lovers.

Mana

One Michelin star

Under the guidance of chef-owner Simon Martin, Mana in Ancoats employs methods like fermentation and live-fire cooking to craft a modern British menu. Skilfully blending intense flavours and fine textures into an array of distinct, artfully arranged courses, the menus are complemented by a meticulously curated selection of new and old-world wines, as well as ingeniously crafted cocktails that draw inspiration from the kitchen. Mana's vast dining area, reminiscent of a contemporary cathedral, provides a different setting according to the time of day, as well as views of the kitchen from every table.

Michelin-star restaurants – About the guide

About the Michelin Guide
The first guide was published in 1900 by the car tyre manufacturer Michelin. It was handed out free to anyone who bought a car.

In the Michelin Guide, food (and only food) is categorised by stars. Points for service, atmosphere and other elements are rewarded by 'Couvert symbols', crossed forks and spoons (1-5).

- Three stars in the Michelin Guide means a restaurant is worth a “special journey”
- two stars means that the restaurant is “worth a detour”
- while one star means that it is an “exceptionally good restaurant in its category”
