The Lowry
Named after arguably the most famous artist to ever come out of Manchester, The Lowry is a dynamic creative hub that boasts theatres, art galleries, and creative initiatives for artists and young people. This impressive facility is housed in a modern and dramatic building that'll really capture your attention, plus there's lots going on inside the space.
The Lowry holds the largest collection of work by L.S. Lowry in the whole world, numbering hundreds of pieces. These works are permanently on display in the galleries and are free to visit. Every day the museum holds several 10 minute long talks on the artist that'll help you to understand more about the man and his work. Temporary exhibitions are on here as well, covering a range of themes and celebrating local creativity.
The venue also has three different theatre spaces, ranging from an auditorium for large-scale shows to a studio theatre for the most intimate performances. These theatres stage a wide variety of performances including comedy acts, ballet, drama, musicals, opera, and shows aimed at children.
The Lowry runs a number of initiatives to promote creativity including artist development programmes, family-friendly workshops, creative learning initiatives, and programmes to encourage young people to engage with visual art, dance, and drama. The venue also has its own bar and restaurant overlooking the waterfront, as well as a gift shop where you can buy L.S. Lowry prints, souvenirs, accessories, homewares, and gifts.
