Umeå's oldest café, dating from 1927! Pastries made with traditional core principles such as baking with real butter and no convenience products are not acceptable. That is how it should be, and a well-qualified CEO in Sweden's bakers & confectioners isn't bad shipped😉… of course I must go there and check the scene!
If I had only arrived 2 minutes later, the café would have been so full there would be no empty chair left for me, phew sometimes you’re lucky! The interior has preserved the 1920s feel. And such a detail as having your pastries on a “silver” tray makes a lot of difference overall👌🏼 3 out of 5!
I had a Northern-style “croque monsieur,” i.e., with Västerbotten cheese and smoked ham. A very tasty variant and the coffee with freshly ground beans just for my cup was the cherry on top for my short stay, 3 out of 5!
They should have a system like Mr.cake with someone who keeps track of seating because it is damn cheeky to reserve seats when you haven’t ordered/paid for your fika and there is a long queue; it’s the same for everyone. Even worse is that 2p takes a seat for 4🤯 When people lack sense & etiquette in upbringing, then the Mr.cake system is what should be applied. This would require a steady and confident staff to handle this and it demands experience in service. Unfortunately I don’t think this young staff really has worked up their confidence yet, but they were friendly at the counter. There wasn’t much more time than to just order and pay for your… 3 out of 5!
Delicious pastries and I would easily take some to go, but I’ll likely pass on staying to fika on site. Nice that it is so appreciated and wonderful that such a business is doing so well with full tables, but not my cup of tea.
8-11/2 2025! Minisemester in Umeå😁
