On the east coast of Gotland, fairly close to Ljugarn and Katthammarsvik, lies Sjaustru Fiskeläge.
Here, just as the name suggests, there is a fishing village with beautiful small fishing cottages located down by the water. The fishing cabins are really nice. Probably privately owned but it is nice to walk past them.
A long curved road, like a pier or breakwater, goes out into the sea with a wall built of natural stone. Beyond is the open sea, so the waves crash hard against the coast in stormy weather.
Behind the cottages is a rocky hill with some trees and bushes - the classic Gotland nature and there is a small table for picnics where you can sit and look out over the sea.
A short distance away from Fiskeläge is a long sandy beach with fine sand, a fine bottom and clear water. For Gotland, it is nevertheless very empty and peaceful, even during the summer and never packed with people like some of the island's other beaches. Above is a campsite between the trees - also much quieter and not at all as crowded as many others. Maybe because there is nothing here in the form of restaurants, shops or other types of entertainment, but it is just what it is: Forest and sea.
