Skillinge Hamnkrog is something of a hallmark for Skillinge and the restaurant down by the harbour is well-known throughout Österlen. They serve mainly delicious fish and seafood dishes, but they also add a few other traditional dining experiences throughout the year. Sweden's largest art event

Every Easter, the popular Konstrundan Art Tour takes place in Österlen, engaging hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of art-interested visitors. Study the map carefully before setting off to plan the best route with art and design to see, ranging from paintings and sculptures to ceramics and textiles. Many artists invite you into their homes or studios, while others rent spaces in venues such as Ystad Saltsjöbad. Fritiof Nilsson Piraten

Famous gravestone

One of Sweden's most beloved authors, Fritiof Nilsson Piraten, is perhaps best known for “Bombi Bitt and I” and his famous gravestone in Ravlunda is well visited. It bears the well-known text “Here below are the ashes of a man who had the habit of putting everything off until tomorrow. But in his final days he improved, and did actually die on 31 January 1972”. Every year on Piraten Day, 14 July, the Piraten Prize is awarded in Kivik.

Do you love film? Then you should visit Ystad Studios Visitor Center, an experience centre for film, located right next to the film production studio Ystad Studios. In addition to the Wallander films, the Oscar-nominated 'The Best of Mothers', 'Maria Larsson's Eternal Moment', 'Svinalängorna' and the interior scenes from the TV series 'The Bridge' have been filmed here. Ales stenar

Ship setting from the Vendel period

Ales stenar, or Ale's Stones, is an ancient monument consisting of 59 stones that weigh at least five tonnes each. The stone ship is Sweden's largest preserved and is approximately 67 metres long and 19 metres wide. The monument is near the village of Kåseberga and is often dated back to the Vendel period, although burials may have taken place here as early as the Iron Age. The walk up to the stones, and it's not uncommon to be accompanied by a few cows along the way. Don't forget to soak in the magical view of the sea.

Stenshuvud

Hike to the top

Near Kivik lies Stenshuvud National Park. Swim along the long sandy beach, hike to the summit, or take a guided tour of the national park which has an exotic southern character. We recommend hiking to the top through the beech forest, past the ancient oaks, to get the most out of your visit. From the top, you can gaze out over the sea and land beside Hanö Bay. According to legend, the giant Sten, also known as Stenhogubben, lives with his family and livestock inside the mountain, which is accessed through a cave called Giddastuan.

Southernmost point

Curious about visiting the southernmost point of Sweden? Then you should head to Smygehuk on the southern coast of Skåne. The location attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, and there's a compass-like distance indicator made of stone on the ground, as well as a sign pointing out directions and distances to some European capitals and to Treriksröset. Atop a hill offering views over the sea, the rolling Skåne landscape and Hammars backar, you'll find Köpingsberg Vineyard. 300 metres from the sea

Between Ales stenar and Stenshuvud, just a couple of kilometres south of Skillinge fishing village, lies the vineyard Domän Sånana. Percy Månsson planted the first vines in 1994, and the first wine was bottled in 1999. Thanks to the proximity to the sea, which is only 300 metres away, the grapes are cultivated in a mild microclimate. During a visit to Sånana, you can see how the wine is produced and enjoy a pleasant wine tasting. Since 2010, Domän Sånana has been an approved supplier to Systembolaget.

Mandelmanns Trädgårdar

Much-loved TV couple

In Djupadal, the Mandelmann family runs an organic visitor garden, and they have been doing so since 1996. Since the beginning, they have invited television viewers into the show "Mandelmann's Farm" which aired on TV4, and they became well-known to the entire Swedish public. The Mandelmann couple grows most of what is sold in the farm shop and served in the café. Mandelmanns Gardens is open to visitors a few days a week from June to October. Couples can also book their wedding in the farm's beautiful gardens.

Österlenchoklad

Swedish-made chocolate

In an old village school from 1893 in Skåne-Tranås you'll find the popular destination Österlenchoklad. Swedish chocolate has been made here since 2013 – from cocoa bean to finished chocolate product. The shop is open year-round, and you can buy chocolate at factory prices, but you can also sit down for a snack in the café. From the factory shop, visitors can see the chocolate production through windows, from when the cocoa beans are roasted to the decoration of pralines; what you see depends on which day you visit Österlenchoklad.
