Among the charming cobbled streets, medieval houses and restaurant-packed squares of Gamla Väster, what used to be the exclusive hotel Mäster Johan has renamed and reinvented itself and flung its doors wide open. Now called MJ's, it's a combination of urban hotel, restaurant and bar in the heart of Malmö.
Malmö's cosmopolitan side is reflected in much of the decor, with dark wood tones, light marble surfaces and gold accents in the lounge. Most eye-catching, though, is the iconic pink flamingo chair by the door out to the leafy dining room.
A luxurious hotel breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner, are served in the main dining room, with its high glass ceiling and leafy, plant-filled interiors. The evening menu consists mainly of vegetarian small and medium-sized dishes, often reflecting the season and the local landscape, while lunch includes fish, vegetarian and a weekly meat dish.
Weekends are all about post-work drinks with DJs and a lively bar scene. Beer and wine by all means, but cocktails are the stars of the show here. Choose from classics or the bar's own creations.

Excellent hotel with welcoming and delicious decor. Located within walking distance from Malmö Central in the city center. Very nice room and bathroom.
Great service at the reception and bar. Had a glass of wine and chips in the bar, and the wine recommendation was perfect. Breakfast was incredibly tasty, nothing missing. Malmö was extra cold that night, so a bit chilly in the room, as this old building didn’t quite cope with the temperature swing. But the hotel as a whole is truly a gem!
