The Manchester Literature Festival, established in 2006 from the legacy of the Manchester Poetry Festival, is a welcoming space where people gather to celebrate language, culture, and connections. Held every October across various iconic venues in the city, the two-week festival offers a blend of live events and digital activities that entertain, educate, and inspire.

In 2024, the festival is hosting a star-studded lineup of authors across different literary genres. Multifaceted artist Neneh Cherry will present her memoir, David Peace (“The Damned United”) will discuss the impact of the 1958 Munich plane crash on Manchester United, Susanna Clarke (“Piranesi”, “Jonathan Strange & Mr Norell”) will discuss how reading and writing have shaped her life, and best-selling cook Meera Sodha will present her new recipe book “Dinner,” to name just a few. In addition to the book talks and interviews, the festival features concerts, drawing workshops, and much more, all connected by the theme of “reimagining.”

The festival takes place from 4 to 20 October at various venues across town. You can view the full programme on the Manchester Literature Festival website here.
