The best cafés in Uppsala
Here's where to get your coffee in Uppsala
Shabby chic with a huge selection
Café Linné has long been a favourite among Uppsala's fika enthusiasts. Interiors - think mismatched chairs and shabby sofas - are as inviting and generous as the wide range of cakes and pastries. There are also slightly more substantial options such as lasagne and pierogis if you're feeling peckish.

Regal fika
Students and pensioners alike can enjoy coffee and cake in regal style at Güntherska Hovkonditoriet. The unbeatable outdoor terrace location right next to the Fyris river is the place to be during the summer months and in the winter you can get cosy inside the konditori's salon. Güntherska serves exquisite cakes, pastries and patisserie made from scratch from top-quality ingredients.

Fika with a view
Café Årummet makes the most of its great location next to the Fyris river. The large windows display both the river and the cathedral from their best angle, and the mismatched collection of rugs on the floor makes it feel as cosy as your granny's living room. Non-diabetics should try the carrot cake, which is seriously hefty but well worth the calories.

A passion for coffee
Whether it's the peaceful atmosphere, the airy and stylish space, or the fine coffee that keeps regulars coming back to Uno is anyone's guess, but there's no doubt the café is one of Uppsala's most beloved spots. All the tea and coffee they serve is organic, and the cakes and pastries are made with a large dose of love. The place is particularly popular for working and studying, and it also houses a shop where you can browse among coffee mugs, plates, and of course, coffee beans.

From açai bowls to wine
Instagram-friendly breakfasts, brunch, healthy salads, sandwiches, beer and wine. This cosy, conscious café in Luthagen offers all this and more. You can also drink specialty coffee from Johan & Nyström, perhaps with a little cake or pastry.

Charming nostalgia
Storken is an institution in Uppsala, for good reason. Despite its central location it's slightly tucked away up a flight of stairs and, in true old-school style, it consists of lots of different small rooms rather than one large open space. The selection of cakes and pastries is similarly old-fashioned and the whole café gives the impression that time has stood still.

Home-baked in the centre
In summer 2023, Broströms café closed its doors and the premises, located just next to Uppsala central station, now houses Café Varga. They serve everything from home-baked treats to simple dishes, and as the café holds a licence to serve alcohol, it's also a great place for a post-work hangout with wine and snacks – perhaps over a game of chess? A few mismatched vintage furniture pieces and a jukebox add to the charming atmosphere.

Classic konditori
Prominent Swedish figures including Karin Boye, Gustaf Fröding and Prince Eugen are among the countless guests who have sat and drunk coffee and contemplated the meaning of life over the years at this historic little konditori. Ofvandahls has been at the same location on Sysslomansgatan since the 19th century and has managed to retain its old-fashioned charm over the years.

Cosmopolitan with fantastic coffee
Stationen isn't just a café; it's a combined brasserie, bar and café. The café part is inspired by Rome, and the Italian angle means that there's a strong emphasis on the coffee - Stationen may well serve Uppsala's best espresso - but the rest of the menu maintains the same high standard too.

Konditori founded in 1902
With over 120 years under their belt, the Central Confectionery is something of an institution among Uppsala's café enthusiasts. In a picturesque alley just a stone's throw from the central station, delicious pastries, freshly baked treats, and simple lunches are served – along with Pelle Svanslös-inspired cakes. The café is on the smaller side, with only ten seats, but when the weather permits, it's lovely to take your treats with you for a picnic in Stadsparken or by the Fyris river.

Al fresco fika from spring until autumn
Fågelsången is a lovely café in its own right - with delicious pastries and substantial sandwiches - but the large outdoor serving area makes it extra special. It's open most of the year, with views over the waters of Svandammen, and there's space for 150 people to sit outside and drink coffee, whether it's bikini or blanket weather.

Hidden away and a bit different
Crêperie Lemoni is tucked away in a cobbled courtyard which feels a million miles from central Uppsala. Both the food and the furniture are French inspired, with small, intimate tables, savoury galettes, sweet crêpes and strong coffee. On colder days you can also sit indoors.
