Serving as the prequel to the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things”, the new West End production has critics and audiences raving.
“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” is a major new play hosted by the Phoenix Theatre in the heart of London's Theatreland. Based on the massive Netflix hit “Stranger Things”, the play takes place before the events of the series. Based on a story written by “Stranger Things” creators The Duffer Brothers and co-directed by award-winning directors Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin, the new chapter dives into (spoiler alert if you haven't seen the series yet) the origins of the series' archvillain Henry Creel aka Vecna, with multiple other familiar characters making an appearance as well.
Premiering on 14 December, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” has opened to rave reviews, with critics in awe of the no-holds-barred production, performances, and successful capture of the series' unique atmosphere. Combining the excellent reviews with a massive in-built fanbase means the West End likely has another major hit on its hands and one that fans of “Stranger Things” or theatre definitely shouldn't skip. It's worth mentioning that though you don't have to have seen the original Netflix series to enjoy the play, you'll likely take more away from it if you're familiar with the lore, so settle down and throw it on the telly – it's not “binge watching”, it's “doing research”.
“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” is on at the Phoenix Theatre and currently booking until 2025. Find out more about the production and book tickets here.
