It's been announced that a brand new festival – Black on the Square – will be taking place on 2nd September in celebration of Black culture and creativity. Taking place in the heart of the city in Trafalgar Square, this one-day event is a family-friendly festival highlighting Black talent.

There will be a huge range of performances going on throughout the day covering genres like spoken word, jazz, rap, soul, as well as showcases of art and fashion. There will be established acts present as well as up-and-coming names. Added to that there will be DJs, food vendors, and market stalls offering homewares, accessories, and gifts.

Black on the Square is designed to be a celebration of the talent and diversity of London's Black communities. Although this is the first edition of the event, it's set to become an annual fixture in the Mayor of London's calendar of cultural festivities in Trafalgar Square, which also includes celebrations for Diwali, Eid, and Hanukkah. The festival starts at 12pm, is free to attend, and there's no need to get a ticket - find out more here.
