“A Lesson From Auschwitz” comes to the White Bear Theatre in Kennington on 31 January for a limited time, bringing a stark and challenging piece of theatre to one of London's most intimate stages. Performed at close quarters, the production centres on a real meeting that took place at Auschwitz in 1941, when SS officers were introduced to Zyklon B (the poison gas that would later be used to murder millions of Jews).

The play is deliberately stripped back, and rather than depicting violence directly, it focuses on the mindset and systems that allowed it to happen, examining how obedience, routine and bureaucracy enabled unimaginable cruelty. Officially commended by the Foundation of Memory Sites Near Auschwitz-Birkenau, the production is heavy, controlled and unflinching. It's not an easy watch, but it's a powerful one, showing for one day only.
