Hackney restaurant The Sea, The Sea has gained an impressive reputation thanks to its intimate chef's table setting and creative seafood courses. In 2023, the restaurant adapted to the changing needs of diners by launching a lower-price tasting menu to make the venue more inclusive. Now more changes are underway with the upcoming departure of chef Leo Carreira.
Known up until now for Carreira's elaborate 11 course tasting menus, his departure means that the restaurant is pivoting to become a space for chef pop-ups and residencies, promising exciting new dining experiences in the same intimate environment. The space will be offered to established and emerging chefs and restaurant brands who want to test out new experiences and ideas. The focus will still be on fish and seafood but diners will get even more unique ways to eat.
As part of the changes, The Sea, The Sea will also be expanding the wholesale arm of its business, which currently supplies fresh fish and seafood to more than 150 restaurants in London and southern England. The Sea, The Sea's other restaurant in Chelsea, which offers a more casual dining experience, will continue to operate in its current form.
Carreira is due to leave The Sea, The Sea at the end of March, so there's still time to book in for one last tasting menu before the restaurant enters the next exciting phase of its development.
