Every October, Somerset House turns into one of the most exciting art spaces in the city. The 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair brings together over 50 galleries from around the world, showcasing artists working across the African continent and its diaspora. Expect vibrant textiles, surreal installations, eye-catching sculptures, and paintings that draw you in from across the room, as well as a brilliant programme of talks and events that dive deeper into the work on show.

The curation is clever, and there's a good chance you'll leave with a few new names saved in your notes app. Somerset House suits the fair perfectly too – it's grand without being pretentious, and gives the work the kind of space it deserves. The exhibition runs from October 16 to 19, and tickets start at £18.
