From June 10 to August 31, the Hayward Gallery is showcasing the largest European retrospective of Yoshitomo Nara. Nara is one of Japan's most celebrated contemporary artists, known for his instantly recognisable portraits of wide-eyed, childlike figures with a rebellious edge.
Featuring more than 150 works in painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and installation, the show explores themes of resistance, freedom, isolation and spirituality. Expect a mix of sweetness and subversion, with influences that range from nature and mythology to punk, rock, and pop culture. This is Nara at his boldest and most expansive, and is a must-see for contemporary art fans.
Tickets cost £20 (members free) and can be booked here.
