Now, we know that looks aren't everything but if you want to boost your Insta followers you're going to have to start hanging out in some more photogenic venues. Luckily that's not too much of a challenge if you're in London – real ale experts CAMRA have done the hard work and crowned the winners of this year's Pub Design Awards, naming four London venues as amongst the country's best-looking pubs.
There's certainly no short of gorgeous places to go for a pint around the city but if you're looking for the cream of the crop then look no further. One of the winners is The Black Lion in Kilburn, a Grade II listed venue built around 1898 and packed with ornate design. Expect sweeping curtains, tall pillars, intricate engravings, plus an eclectic drinks range and a tempting menu with North Indian influences.
Next up we have the Spread Eagle in Wandsworth, a busy local pub with boutique hotel rooms. The interiors here have been carefully restored to help you step back in time with every drink. This Victorian venue is full of traditional style, serves drinks and food, and hosts an exciting range of events including monthly supper clubs, art classes, and live music.
The Cadogan Arms in Chelsea also got recognition, with polished wood interiors that bring a sprawling country pile to mind. An ambitious renovation of this pub in 2021 uncovered many of its historic original features. Sustainable British dishes are on the menu here, alongside plenty of drinks choices including cocktails, wines, and beer.
The other London pub to make the cut was The George, centrally located in Great Portland Street. This Grade II listed venue has a history going back to the 18th century and a classic interior with traditional features like floor tiles and engraved mirrors behind the bar. Satisfying pub food is available to go with a drink but this pub also has a cosy fine dining establishment upstairs.
Although London dominated the list, pubs in Bedford, Swindon, and Exeter were amongst the others included. Whilst you're never short of options if you want to go to the pub in London, these places should definitely be on your bucket list if you want to drink in the most beautiful venues around.
