The musical “Lifeline” is set to make its London premiere at Southwark Playhouse Elephant. Following a successful off-Broadway debut and a ground-breaking performance at the United Nations, this production has also enjoyed sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018 and 2022. The show will run from 28 March to 2 May, featuring a talented cast from West-End and Broadway.
“Lifeline” explores pivotal moments in history through two intertwined love stories set seventy years apart, all set to the backdrop of nostalgic Scottish folk music and lively rhythms. The narrative begins in 1950, focusing on Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming, renowned for his discovery of penicillin. As he navigates his newfound fame, Fleming falls for Greek resistance fighter and scientist Amalia Voureka, who faces her own challenges back home. In a parallel storyline, present-day Edinburgh sees junior doctor Jess confronted with the sudden arrival of her estranged childhood sweetheart at her hospital, prompting a re-evaluation of past emotions and medical practices.
The musical draws inspiration from historical events and contemporary global issues, featuring a unique element in each performance: a chorus of real-life healthcare professionals, including nurses, doctors, and scientists, who join the professional cast and a six-piece band, ensuring each show is distinct.
