O2 Academy Brixton is a historic London concert venue that has hosted gigs by some of the biggest stars in the world during its 50 years of operation. The Grade II-listed venue closed down in December 2022 following a fatal crowd crush at a gig by Asake that left two people dead. The tragic incident resulted in hearings on whether the venue should be allowed to keep its license and continue operating, with a number of new conditions set on its operation.
These conditions look to have been met now, as O2 Academy Brixton has announced it will be reopening on Friday 19 April, with a show by Nirvana and The Smiths tribute bands. Another tribute band bill is on the programme a week later (Oasis and Foo Fighters), then in May, Editors and The Black Keys will be performing. No other gigs have been announced yet, but considering the 5000-capacity venue's iconic status, we can expect that calendar to fill up in no time. You can keep up to date here.
