London's free pop-up oasis returns to Canada Water

Londoners and visitors can enjoy Love Summer, a free and family friendly pop-up terrace and nature-inspired oasis opening to all on Friday 21st July at Canada Water.

Summer in the city is in full swing, and Canada Water is welcoming Londoners near and far to enjoy a host of friendly, fun and free social activities, workshops and live music at its annual Love Summer pop-up. Returning for its second year, Love Summer is a laid-back oasis which will open to all on Friday 21st July. With activities including weekend music – showcasing local emerging talent – alongside arts classes, a series of health and wellbeing workshops (such as yoga, pilates and terrarium making), Wallball, and climbing sessions at London's first dedicated bouldering centre, some of the best experiences of the summer are waiting at Canada Water.

Set across the Summer Terrace and Plant Pavilion and hosting a fun-packed programme of activities, Love Summer is located next to Surrey Quays Shopping Centre and will open from 21st July until the 28th August. The Summer Terrace will form a relaxed and social outdoor space inspired by the very best of British summertime: think garden parties filled with deck chairs, lawn games and bunting – and even blankets for those classically cooler English summer evenings.

Inspired by Canada Water's creative community alongside its surroundings of park, woodland and water, the Plant Pavilion is a unique, greenery-filled space open from 11am-8pm Monday to Wednesday, 11am – 9pm Thursday - Friday, 10am-9pm on Saturdays, and 10am-5pm on Sundays. Local street food will be available to buy from nearby vendors, or visitors can bring their own picnic.

A comprehensive and evolving event schedule is on each week to enjoy, including:

  • Mondays: Yoga classes helping you to unwind your body and reinvigorate your mind, hosted by experienced and friendly local tutors. Take some time out of your week to refresh your senses and boost your wellbeing for the week ahead.
  • Tuesdays: Terrarium-building and mini garden making workshops with plant&person, creating plantscapes with exotic plants and natural materials for both adults and children.
  • Wednesdays: Art classes for all ages with local artist Rod Kitson, ranging from summer-themed portrait sessions to flora and fauna drawing in watercolour.
  • Fridays and weekends: A variety of new and emerging musicians and a bar, including cocktails and mocktails from the renowned duo behind Canada Water-based Strongman's Tipple. Set to be extremely popular, places are limited so pre-booking is advised. Slots for the first few weeks are available to book now, with a second wave due to be released later this summer.

Fancy trying a new sport?

  • Wallball, a game based on the simple concept of hitting a ball against a wall with your hands, is open to players of all ages and abilities at the Canada Water court drop-in coaching sessions every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Arch, London's original bouldering centre, is open for free adult intro classes and family sessions every Monday, Thursday and Sunday, to learn the basics of bouldering, and includes all equipment needed and entry into the centre for the whole day!

Edward Cree, Head of Asset Management for British Land's Canada Water development, commented: “Love Summer at Canada Water has returned and so too has our invigorating line up of weekly cultural activities, up-and-coming talent showcases, and the chance for all to try something new this summer. It's particularly good to see London's friendliest, and free, pop-up come to life alongside the exciting work in progress that will bring a new, sustainable town centre to Canada Water.”

Love Summer is located outside Surrey Quays Shopping Centre close to the Zone 2 Canada Water tube station, serviced by the Jubilee and Overground lines and local bus routes.
