London has no shortage of fab bakeries where you can pick up fresh bread or tasty sweet treats, but now one of the capital's favourites has officially been ranked as one of the finest bakeries in the country. The Dusty Knuckle Bakery, with locations in Dalston and Harringay, has been rated as the third best artisan bakery in the UK, with two other London businesses also making it into the rankings.
British Baker, the leading source of news and info for the baking industry, has compiled their “Bakers' Dozen”, a list of the 13 best artisan bakeries in the country. Over 100 baking experts from up and down the country gave their opinion to help establish the rankings. The Dusty Knuckle Bakery got recognition for the quality of its baking, but also for the work it does as a social enterprise, offering training and employment opportunities to at-risk young people.
Two other London bakeries made the cut as well. Toad Bakery came in at number seven, ranked for its constantly-changing selection of bakes made with fresh and seasonal ingredients. Finally, Arôme Bakery made it to number 11. This bakery has a couple of sites in London and focuses on inventive fusion bakes combining Japanese flavours with French techniques. Arôme was also ranked as one of the country's best bakeries by The Times last year.
If you fancy checking out the country's number one artisan bakery, you'll have to head to Cumbria to visit Lovingly Artisan. If that's a bit too far, you have lots of options for tasty and highly-rated bakes in London. See the full listings from British Baker here.
