Nico's Bar at Hackney Bridge launches free music nights

Canalside favourite Hackney Bridge has unveiled a new event series at the recently opened Nico's Bar in East London, harnessing a plethora of musical cultures from around the world with music evenings every Friday. “Around The World with Nico” will celebrate the best in music from all corners of the globe, with a beautiful range of artists performing in the new bar space, with views of Hackney Wick and the Olympic Park.

Each evening will play host to two 45-minute sets. Performances will start at 7.30 pm, with space and tables being allocated on a first come, first serve basis. The series will launch on 8 March and starts strong with the brilliant Javier Camilo Trio - guests can expect reflections of his Cuban heritage via rumbas, timbas and cha chas balanced with his experience as a session artist throughout Europe.

The following Friday (15 March) will play host to German/Somali artist SAHRA melding 70s soul with a familiar folkiness inspired by Joni Mitchell. She'll be joined by some of her various friends in the industry throughout her sets.

The third weekend (22 March) presents Sounds of West Africa with the Dele Sosimi Trio. Led by Nigerian-British afrobeat ambassador Dele Sosimi, the group specialises in mixing African percussion with traditional Nigerian music and funky grooves, delivered with an underlying beat of jazz. They will be followed by Afro Jazz Grooves with Phil Dawson Trio on 29 March; a previous collaborator of Dele Sosimi, Phil and his band will play a heady blend of African, Brazilian, Jazz and Funk.

Food and drinks will be readily available, with Nico's Bar serving a range of excellent cocktails made with Bacardi Rum alongside a selection of local beers. For dining options, a selection of London's best street food vendors will be serving a range of tasty bites in the Hackney Bridge Kitchens.
