Swift Shoreditch, the award-winning cocktail bar that's already a hit amongst people who know their mezcal from their martinis, is opening its doors to a pop-up dedicated entirely to pickled onions. So, if you have ever looked at a jar of Garner's and thought you would happily drink the brine, this is for you.
Garner's Pickles is launching what they are calling the world's first pickled onion cocktail bar. The whole thing is happening in the run-up to Christmas, right in the plush setting of Swift Shoreditch. Now they are adding brine, onion-infused spirits and pickled syrups to their toolkit, which is a bit out there but also somehow completely on brand.
The internet has been playing around with pickled drinks for a while. Dua Lipa threw a pickle juice and Diet Coke combo into the mix, and picklebacks have been a staple for ages. A pickled gherkin in a Bloody Mary is a classic, and a pickled onion in a martini is actually more delicious than it sounds. With the Garner's Jar Bar, the team is taking that vibe and turning it into a small seasonal menu that puts pickle juice front and centre.
Drinks will be mixed straight from jar to glass, with the mixologists using pretty much every part of Garner's jars to build flavour. The idea is that wherever your taste sits on the adventurous scale, there will be something to try. You can keep it mild, or you can go all out.
Garner's is calling it the most wonderful brine of the year. It's only open for one day, so if the idea of a pickled onion martini makes you extra excited, now is your time.
The Garner's Jar Bar is open from 3pm – 11pm on Friday, 5 December, and can be booked here.
