Wondering where you can get the best fried chicken in London? Indian restaurant group Kricket have been wondering that too, leading to its Fried Chicken Challenge, which took place on 19th March at the group's Brixton restaurant. The event saw top restaurants going head-to-head to see who has the best fried chicken going.
Shoreditch Thai restaurant Smoking Goat was crowned the winner, beating off tough competition from other restaurants including Daffodil Mulligan, Kanada-Ya, Thunderbird Fried Chicken, Tonkotsu, and Coqfighter. There were some tough judges to impress as well, with the panel including KFC's Chief Chicken Officer, Kricket's founder and head chef, and other fried chicken experts.
Smoking Goat won the contest with its central Thai recipes, serving a chicken thigh coated in a powder made from lemongrass, galangal, shrimp paste, and tamarind powder. They also served a chicken leg coated in a northern Thai-style smoked chilli relish. The restaurant clinched the title thanks to the intense textures and flavours that paired well with the chicken.
This is the second time the event has taken place, with Black Bear Burger claiming the title last year. Tickets were on sale to watch the competition, with a proportion of each ticket price being donated to The Childhood Trust, a charity that supports children living in poverty in London. Over the two years that the event has been running, a total of £2,300 has been raised for the charity.
