From 9–30 September 2025, Luna Omakase – the twelve-seat sushi counter located high above the City on the 9th floor of 100 Liverpool Street – is joining forces with Château Mercian, Japan's oldest and most prestigious winery, for a one-off Japanese wine pairing.
The setting alone is special: an intimate counter with sweeping views of St Paul's, where executive chef Leonard Tanyag will be serving a twelve-course omakase that follows the phases of the moon. Expect Sosaku-style Edomae sushi – nigiri, Wagyu, seasonal fish – each course a little work of art.

For September, every dish is matched with one of four Château Mercian wines, hand-picked by Thesleff Group's head of wine and sake, Michele Orbolato. Highlights include the crisp Rivalis Chardonnay alongside king crab nigiri; the limited edition Iwade Koshu Ortum, perfect with bluefin tuna belly; and a deep Mariko Syrah to meet the richness of A5 Wagyu. It's the first time a London restaurant has poured such a line-up of Japanese wines, and the result is set to be one of the city's most refined pairing experiences.

Château Mercian was founded in 1870, and is considered the pioneer of modern Japanese winemaking, with vineyards across Yamanashi, Nagano and Fukushima. Today, its Koshu and Chardonnay bottlings win international acclaim, while the estate continues to experiment with unexpected varieties like Albariño and Mencía.

With only twelve seats per sitting, this collaboration is as exclusive as it gets. If you're a fan of omakase – or just curious to taste Japan's finest wines alongside world-class sushi – this is the table to book in September. It costs £230 per person, and reservations can be made here.
