This free workshop turns recycled cups into glowing art

If January's starting to feel a little grey, this free family workshop at the William Morris Gallery is a decent way to brighten things up, quite literally. Taking place on Saturday 17 January, Bauhaus Lanterns is a relaxed, drop-in creative session where kids (and patient adults) can make their own glowing lantern inspired by Collier and Campbell's Bauhaus textile designs.

Running from 1pm–4pm, the workshop uses recycled plastic cups, coloured tissue paper and battery-powered tealights to create bold, abstract lanterns in classic Bauhaus shades. There's plenty of cutting, sticking and layering involved, but nothing too fiddly — it's designed to be accessible, with children aged four and up in mind.

It's less about perfect results and more about experimenting with colour and shape, then heading home with something that adds a bit of warmth to dark winter evenings.
