Chess takes over central London once again on Sunday 13 July, as ChessFest returns to Trafalgar Square for a full day of free, family-friendly activities celebrating the game in all its forms.

Following last year's record turnout of over 23,000 visitors, the 2025 edition is shaping up to be even more popular. The square will be filled with giant chess sets, rows of playing tables, and live exhibitions featuring some of the UK's top players.

Confirmed guests include England's number one Grandmaster Nikita Vitiugov, as well as British champions Mickey Adams, Matthew Sadler, Chris Ward, and Harriet Hunt. Throughout the day, visitors can participate in open play, receive lessons from professional coaches, or watch elite players compete in speed and blindfold matches.

The Living Chess Board is always a hit, where actors bring classic games to life with commentary and theatre. Performances take place throughout the afternoon, all of which are broadcast on a huge screen overlooking the square.

No tickets needed, just turn up and join in.
