Cutty Sark is throwing its annual Sea Shanty Festival this weekend, which marks the famous tea clipper's 156th birthday. It's a full day of maritime music with choirs, folk singers and shanty groups performing across the ship. Expect everything from traditional work songs to newer takes from groups like the London Sea Shanty Collective.
There are talks, poetry sessions and a big sing-along at the end of the afternoon if you feel brave enough to join in. Performers rotate between the 'Tween Deck and the Dry Dock so you can drift between sets or just settle in and listen.
You will hear a real mix of performers throughout the day, from long-running shanty groups like the HogEye Men to all-female crew The Silver Darlings and the big community sound of the London Sea Shanty Collective. There are sets from Sonny Brazil, poetry from Luigi Coppola and a performance from Carmen Souza, who brings jazz and Cabo Verdean influences to the festival.
It runs from 10am to 4.30pm, and standard Cutty Sark admission applies. You can book through the Royal Museums Greenwich website.
