We have categorised The Duke of Cambridge as:
- Pub
The first organic pub in Britain, The Duke of Cambridge in Islington has been certified by the Soil Association since opening in 1998 and holds the highest accreditation from the Sustainable Restaurant Association. Striving to be a sustainability-minded, responsible business in all aspects, the gastropub sources fresh seasonal ingredients from local organic producers. This includes the drinks, which are also sourced according to high environmental standards.
With such a commitment to seasonal ingredients and great-tasting food, the menu at The Duke of Cambridge changes often. The cuisine is rooted in the British Isles, but isn’t shy about picking up inspiration all over the world. A typical à la carte here might include small plates of brown crab on toast with sriracha, creel-caught langoustines with aioli, gazpacho and bread, or burrata with ajo blanco and pickled cherries to start you off. You can follow up with mains such as Rhug Estate lamb, baba ghanoush and piperade or a Niçoise salad with optional mackerel, accompanied by a side of slaw or seasonal potatoes, before finishing things of with a Basque cheesecake, fruit crumble or chocolate brownie.
On Sundays, the usual starters and desserts are accompanied by a seasonal roast, while on weekdays, a two- or three-course set menu is available during lunchtime as well. You can enjoy your meal at this stripped-down, cosy local pub where all are welcome, pooches included, with a wine pairing, or choose one of the seasonally inspired specials such as the Sacred Rosehip Spritzer or the House Raspberry & Rhubarb Bellini. Organic beer is available as well.
