The Owl & Hitchhiker
A departure from the usual dignified airs of traditional British pubs, The Owl & Hitchhiker is inspired by and devoted to the celebrated sci-fi comedy of Douglas Adams' best-selling “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy” novels, crossed with the works of poet Edward Lear.
It applies the same sort of quirky, joyful logic and clever humour to its space, a rambunctious collection of second-hand tables, chairs and sofas strewn about, yet working together towards homely comfort. Dominated by a giant wooden owl and a large sign with Adams' famous motto "Don't panic", as well as a multi-purpose ping-pong table, the space is decorated with fairy lights and garlands to up the carefree party atmosphere that can go late into the night on weekends.
Aiming to be "the answer to life, the universe and everything", the funky pub offers different craft beers from local breweries on tap, as well as a selection of wines, classic cocktails such as Long Island Ice Teas and Bellinis, spirits and more. The food menu features homemade Caribbean specialities such as salt fish puffs, jerk chicken burgers, sweetcorn puffs and fried plantain, with a good number of veggie and vegan options as well.
For private parties and celebrations, the upstairs area can be hired and seats 35, and the entire pub can be rented out for larger gatherings such as weddings as well. But for whatever reason you come here, don't forget your towel!
