- Pub
There's been a pub called The Red Lion on the same site since 1788, but the one that stands today was built In 1821 and has stood the test of time ever since.
It survived the Blitz completely intact, meaning it's now one of the city's finest examples of original ornate Victorian architecture. It's filled with intricate commissioned glasswork, weathered carpets and wooden panelling and offers a glimpse into life in the late 19th century.
It's undoubtedly one of London's most remarkable pubs, with etched and cut-out mirrors lining both sides of the walls. Although nobody is entirely sure why there are so many mirrors, there are a few theories, one of them being that they were deliberately installed to reduce the privacy of the pub's nooks and crannies, allowing punters to criticise the activity of local women of the night.
Their well-stocked bar features all classic pub drinks, including cask-conditioned ale, craft beer, seasonal ale, cider, spirits and artisan soft drinks. There's also an extensive wine list, which includes whites, reds, rose and sparkling options.
