Trivia: The pub takes its name from HMS Surprise, a British naval ship known for its stealth tactics.

The Surprise is a tranquil and historical pub established in 1853 in Chelsea. Despite enduring World War II bomb damage, the pub has maintained a strong local following, and is even rumoured to have once housed a pet lion. Today, under the guidance of landlord Jack Greenall and with an upcycled design overhaul by Isabella Worsley, The Surprise offers a menu of fine British pub food, a vast range of drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. The dapper private dining room is especially noteworthy, and the pub also regularly hosts live music.
