Japan House

If you’re keen on Japanese food and culture than Japan House is worth a visit. This is the home of Japanese culture in London, and part of a global initiative from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The space is clean, crisp, and modern, with plenty to discover from food and shopping to cultural experiences that give you an insight into authentic Japan.

Many of us enjoy Japanese cuisine, so you’re naturally going to find some tasty food at Japan House. On the first floor there’s the on-site restaurant Akira, serving sushi and authentic dishes, plus Japan-inspired cocktails and a unique take on afternoon tea. If casual dining is more your thing, there’s also a takeaway café serving hot drinks, including the classic matcha, and ice cream. Japan House has a shop showcasing wares from designers and makers from across Japan. Expect traditional crafts, authentic cookware and tableware, stationery, books, fashion and jewellery, and lifestyle products.

If you want to learn more about the country, there are a wide variety of exhibitions, workshops, and talks here covering a number of different topics related to Japan. The centre also has its own library where you can browse books on Japanese culture and innovation. Many of the titles are hard to find elsewhere in the UK. You’re welcome to stay for as long as you like and can even bring your laptop and work in the library. Private hire of the venue is also possible if you’re looking for a unique modern space for your next event.
