Ever since Lorenzo Nardulli opened his ice cream shop in 2009, queues out the door and down the street have been a constant sight in this part of Clapham. The simply furnished parlour is a bastion of Italian authenticity, from the tubs of creamy gelato to the aroma of coffee and the overarching warm hospitality.

The skilled ice cream makers at Nardulli are famed particularly for their genuine gelato, crafted according to traditional recipes and expanded upon with contemporary inspiration. The ingredients used in the preparation are conscientiously sourced from all over the world, meaning the cinnamon comes from Indonesia, the liquorice from Tuscany, the rum from Cuba and so on. The gelateria doesn’t try to stun with unexpected flavour combinations or daring experimentation, relying instead on a comprehensive range of classics such as vanilla, pistachio or amaretto. Each has their own proponents, though the fig, made with fresh figs from South Italy, and the coffee made with Illy come with especially high praise.

Speaking of coffee, the shop also serves a variety of coffees, including the affogato combo of a scoop of ice cream and an espresso, as well as other hot drinks. You can also order delicate crepes or sturdier waffles, adding ice cream for a next-level treat. The parlour sports some seating where you can take your time to enjoy your dessert, though taking it across the street and relaxing on the Clapham Common might be an even better choice in nice weather.
