A mobile pop-up cinema concept originating in Waltham Forest, Stow Film Lounge doesn’t have a permanent venue. Instead, it screens its repertory programme, which ranges from award-winning documentaries to the biggest blockbusters, in different venues around the city.

Launched by former Museum of The Moving Image actors in an area that had no regularly operating cinema at the time, the award-winning Stow Film Lounge has shown over 500 films at more than 40 venues over the past ten years plus, entertaining more than 30,000 people. The venues chosen for the screenings range from community centres, outdoor auditoriums and parks to chapels and breweries, and the programme is suitably diverse as well. They’ve screened everything from children’s pictures and cult classics to silent films and major blockbusters.

There’s usually something special about the screenings themselves, as well, whether it’s a unique location or the accompanying programme such as Q&As with authors, discussions, live orchestra soundtracks, cycle-in movies, custom film posters, karaoke and other entertaining events.

Considering the unpredictability of the schedule and location, checking out the Stow Film Lounge website in advance is a must, but regardless of the event, film lovers can expect a fun night with plenty of communal spirit.
