The Grade I-listed Greenwich Park lies at the heart of the Greenwich Maritime World Heritage Site, which tells the story of Britain's naval power through the ages. The park itself contains the Royal Observatory, an astronomy centre and museum on the Prime Meridian, both of great significance to the development of navigation.

Greenwich Park itself slopes up towards the observatory and extends further south to the Blackheath park area. One of the largest green spaces in South London, Greenwich Park offers plenty of grassy spots to relax on. You can make your way up to the observatory or to the One Tree Hill vista point for breath-taking views of the London skyline, the Thames River and the Greenwich Peninsula.

The first Royal Park to be enclosed, Greenwich Park is an urban sanctuary for wildlife. You can pay a visit to the deer park and observe the herds of deer that reside there, or you can walk in the footsteps of the kings and queens who hunted here or strolled on the park's grounds. The toppled Queen Elizabeth Oak has been there since the 12th century, serving as a picnic spot for the Tudors and later as a prison for criminals caught on the grounds of the park.

There's plenty to do around the park as well, as the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark and Greenwich Market are all within walking distance.
