Formerly known as Mao Chow, this cult Hackney pop-up has evolved into Facing Heaven, a larger, permanent vegan restaurant just around the corner on Mare Street. The neon-lit, share-friendly space keeps the playful, underground spirit alive with a Lazy Susan centrepiece and even disco toilets. Its boldly spiced, fully vegan menu blends Sichuan flavours with Puerto Rican and American influences, living up to its chilli-inspired name and definitely not holding back on heat.

Eclectic Chinese food with a western twist, well worth the time. Would never know it was all vegan! Dan dan noodles and french toast are stand outs.
