Koyn Japanese

A contemporary izakaya-style restaurant in the upmarket Grosvenor Square area, Koyn balances modernity and tradition through its large, stylish venue as well as through its menu.

Dedicated to showcasing Japanese culinary craftsmanship, Koyn in Mayfair is divided into two main dining areas. The so-called Magma is an immersive subterranean space inspired by the dark volcanic interior of Mount Fuji. Adorned with traditional Japanese art on terracotta-tiled walls, bespoke leather chairs and timber-framed banquettes, the space revolves around a Robata charcoal grill. You can observe chefs preparing a range of meat, seafood, fish and vegetable dishes in the open kitchen. The area also encompasses a private dining room for groups of up to 16 guests.

The second dining area at Koyn is called Midori. Inspired by Japanese zen gardens and the verdant undergrowth found on Mount Fuji, the light space features rich green leather seats, tatami mat-inspired oak flooring and walls adorned with bronze and glass sculptural lights. The centrepiece here is the sushi bar, a hand-carved marble station where fresh sushi is prepared in front of your eyes.

Between the two dining areas sits the house bar with a black timber counter, dark green leather stools and bronze wine cabinets. You are welcome to explore the bespoke collection of Japanese whiskies and sakes here, or indulge in an expertly crafted cocktail.
