Situated next to Clapham Commons, this park-side neighbourhood eatery offers a cosy spot for a meal, snack or drink in relaxed, pretty surroundings.

The leisurely Minnow doesn’t cater exclusively to couples, but don’t be surprised if you see pairs seated at most of the tables at any given time. The charming restaurant has a romantic Parisian atmosphere, helped in part by the floral façade and terrace decoration. The large outdoor area looks out at the park and is heated so that colder weather doesn’t spoil the al fresco enjoyment. Inside, Minnow is simply yet cosily furnished, with banquette seating in tasteful colours. There are a couple of more intimate spaces as well – the Garden Room, an enchanting room at the back that can fit up to ten guests, and the Cave, a semi-private table in a snug alcove with a stained-glass window, suitable for four to five people.

The food served at Minnow is fresh and light. The kitchen serves brunch, lunch and dinner, with snacks available throughout the day. Early on, expect traditional brunch options such as the house take on the fry-up, egg dishes, avo toast and porridge. For lunch and dinner, the menu features European-inspired fare, for example burrata, pan-fried pollock, gnocchi or grilled steak. You can also get a two-course early supper set menu on certain days, and Sundays are reserved for BYOB roasts.

Despite the BYOB roast policy, however, this local establishment is also known for its drinks, with a daily happy hour that includes cocktails, house wine and beer. You’ll find both house and classic concoctions on the cocktail menu, along with a concise wine list. Freshly squeezed juices are available throughout the day as well.
