Sanjugo is a tucked-away Shoreditch gem that feels straight out of Japan, with counters of grade-A sashimi, shelves of sake and a warm, cosy welcome. The chefs bring decades of experience, turning out beautifully presented dishes from chicken karaage and pork-and-ginger donburi to unagi don and, on Sundays, luxurious melt-in-the-mouth wagyu. With an intimate whisky and sake bar upstairs, it's the kind of place where you show up hungry, curious and very ready to linger.

Favourite Japanese restaurant in London. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming, and the food is exceptional. It probably helps that the head chef has 20+years of experience in the sushi industry. The lunchtime deal is always a winner - you can enjoy some of their best dishes for under a tenner!
