Tamarind of Mayfair
The first Indian restaurant in London to be awarded a Michelin star – one of the first in the whole world, actually – Tamarind is a venerated dining institution in the heart of Mayfair.
Across two floors, Tamarind encompasses a ground level with an open kitchen that adds to the culinary spectacle and an upper level with a view of the surrounding area and the private gardens. The venue is furnished in an elegantly functional manner, with the dining areas naturally bright and airy and floral arrangements providing a light decorative touch.
The cuisine at Tamarind is inspired by culinary traditions from all over India, both in flavour and preparation, and revolves primarily around the tandoor oven. Using carefully sourced ingredients, the chefs put modern twists on authentic dishes, with the à la carte menu including favourites such as samosas, grilled prawns and lobster, chicken tikka, different curries and biryani, as well as vegetarian options.
The restaurant also offers a wide variety of set menus. The lunch menu comes with two or three courses. You can also choose between different tasting menus, including a gourmet version, all designed to help first-timers explore the intense flavours of India, or regulars to discover something new. The extensive wine list includes bottles from all over the world, curated by Tamarind’s team to complement the kitchen’s work and help bring out the full sensory experience of Indian cuisine.
