The 100 Club
Surrounded by the big fashion brands and shops of Oxford Street, it’s hard to imagine that there’s a live music venue hidden beneath, much less one with such a rich history as The 100 Club.
Launched in 1942 as a jazz club, The 100 Club is considered to be the oldest independent venue in the world, not just the UK. As attested to by the framed photos on the walls of this legendary basement venue, you could fill several halls of fame with the music acts that have performed here. This includes visits by famed bluesmen Muddy Waters and B.B. King in the 1960s, debut London gigs by punk icons Sex Pistols and The Clash in the 1970s, shows by indie stalwarts Oasis and Suede, and much, much more. With its historic reputation, The 100 Club has even been used by The Rolling Stones and Metallica for secret gigs to warm up before heading out on tour.
With an ear for ground-breaking music that has remained sharp through the decades, The 100 Club still stays ahead of music trends today. The listings at this scarlet concert hall regularly feature the buzziest new talent around, so don’t be surprised if you catch the next big festival headliner here. In addition to the concerts, The 100 Club also hosts club nights, stand-up comedy and other events.
