The Hayward Gallery will host the first London retrospective of Liverpudlian artist Linder, offering an in-depth look at the feminist artist's 50-year career. The exhibition will feature the artist's pioneering photomontages, unseen works, and new commissions, highlighting her experimental and feminist approach.

Linder rose to prominence in the late 1970s within the punk and post-punk scenes, notably designing album covers for the Buzzcocks and her own band, Ludus. Her distinctive style merges everyday magazine imagery with provocative visuals, exemplified by her iconic cover for the Buzzcocks' single “Orgasm Addict”. Over the years, she has expanded her practice across fashion, music, performance, textiles, and film, exploring the poetics of protest and cultural critique. Her work challenges gender norms and societal expectations through satirical photomontages and staged self-portraits. Drawing inspiration from surrealism, religious art, and social media, Linder continues to deconstruct glamour and challenge conventions through a feminist lens.

“Linder: Danger Came Smiling” is at the Hayward Gallery from 11 February to 5 May 2025. You can find out more about the exhibition and book tickets here.
